Trail Section #1  Mountain Trail (Firetower Access Trail) & Round Pond Trail.

$$ Note $$
It costs $5.00 per person when you go in the main gate.  If you go into the park from the back entrance, the park is free.
This is totally legal.  In fact, the person taking my $5.00 was the one who told me this.

The Mountain Trail is one of the busiest trails around on a beautiful fall day with full sun, deep blue  sky and temps in the 70's brought out hundreds of people to the trails of the park.  This view greets your arrival to the trail head when you come by in the back half of October.

The trail starts out on a low slow decent to the edge of this pond.  It follows the shore a bit, then branches off into the woods.  The trail has a number of light hills, made all the more difficult in some areas by rocks and roots... but not bad.

The major attraction on this trail is the view from the fire tower.  Unfortunately we won't be going that far.  At a little over 1/2 mile,  you come to a trail junction.  Turn right to continue on the Mountain Trail, or go straight onto the Round Pond Trail.
This is about as far as I could go.  On the Mountain Trail you will soon come to a rocky area.  No problem on foot, but my chair was not able to pass the area.

My chair would not get over the far ridge in the photo below.  The near rock ridge looks like it has a spot or two where I could have gotten by.  The ridge just beyond this looks to be a different story.

Coming back to the junction, I took a right onto the Round Pond Trail.  I had hopes of continuing this exploration, but the trail became loose gravel due to the simple fact that most people hike up to the fire tower.   I don't know about all electric wheelchairs, but until I am able to secure new fat tires to the drive, I won't be going up this trail.  I made it almost to the top... but almost does not get you to the next section of trail.

At almost any point along the trail were 'holes' where color from trees and the sky poured down to the trail from holes in the canopy.

This trail would be good up to this point.  More aggressive tires will be required to go further.... or one of those crazy souped up 'chairs'.

One option that I hope to be able to have in my test arsenal is a GRIT Chair made by MIT.
