LOCATION #2 Pickering Ponds - Rochester (Gonic), NH

Pickering Ponds is a mecca for birders across the area.  The two filtering ponds and adjacent Cocheco River provide one of the best Habitat's in the area for migrating Warblers as well as many other types of birds.

A Pied-billed Grebe in Pond 2

Pickering ponds is located at 349 Pickering Road - Rochester, NH.  Parking is along a short road that leads to the entry.

Just after walking thru the entrance, this path leads you up to the ponds.

Go thru the entry and turn right.  A wide path leads you up the small dike to the 1st of two ponds.  From there you have a choice of paths to walk that take you along the front or back of the two ponds, with a connector path in the middle.

Color is beginning to show at Pond 1

Leading off the back pond are paths that take you to the riverwalk, a serpentine path that follows the turns of the Cocheco River.  The two end paths may very well be too steep for us, but the central one has some promise.
When I was at Pickering this time, the first time in my chair, I was going to check this all out, but the skies opened up on us with very heavy rain.  So that will have to wait for a second report.
